In the meantime some links and other things that will allow you to amuse yourself on the internet without my help.

1. On feminism, actually, here's Salon's Broadsheet column on the current state of women's studies (which is not, I want to assert, identical with feminism either as theory or as practice; though the other day when I was wondering what happened to feminism I meant, I suppose, both its “theory” and its cultural visibility as a stance or attitude.)

2. This is a fun, charming and fully serious column by Robert Pinsky on the state of poetry, framed as a series of questions from someone who doesn't understand poetry, or like it much.

3. Still on feminism, kind of, there was an interesting flap this week about a project by a Yale art student. The project turned out not to be as obviously offensive to lots of people (including some of whom I would disagree with) as it initially seemed, but then, sadly, that just made it sadder and stupider from my perspective.

4. That's all I got. Or maybe I've got more, but I just can't bring myself to write stuff these days. And it's not because I don't have the time; in some weird sense, I do. I just can't bring myself to do the work that would allow me to write things I feel good about or proud of. I can't tell if this is the exhaustion typical of everyone who writes a blog — especially one that requires a level of intensity like this one; one piece a week doesn't seem like much unless it has to cohere and be good — or if it's because I'm teaching, which gives me a place to say some of the things I might say here, or if it's because I'm writing and working on a number of other ideas lately, and so I just don't feel like writing.
